Galician Institute for Statistics(IGE)

Santiago de Compostela, España

Structural typology: OFFICE BUILDINGS
Owner: Instituto Gallego de Estadística
Scope: detailed design
Architect: Andrés Perea Ortega

The Galician Institute of Statistics building is one of a group of three, which along with the IGAPE building (Galician Institute for Economic Development) and the SERGAS building (The Galician Health Service) belong to the Institutional Campus of San Lázaro.

The IGE is a circular-shaped four-storey building whereby the structural conception is the main player in the architectural proposal.

Its structure has been built with beams that constitute part of the façade and of the interior space. These beams rest on concrete diaphragm walls and solid steel columns whose number increases in accordance with the increasing vertical load.
